Chunxiu Lu food and lifestyle space Yù to open this weekend
Part high-end food court, part multi-purpose marketplace and part test kitchen for culinary startups, Yu (stylised Yù) will finally welcome its first punters this weekend. The space, formerly introduced as 'The Crib', is a sprawling complex of independent food vendors, shared dining areas and event spaces that is sure to be getting some action in the coming weeks.
We like to think of it as a Beijing smash-up of a Singaporean hawker centre, a weekly farmers' market and a dedicated pop-up bar, but conveniently sandwiched between Sanlitun and Dongzhimen. From Saturday 26 November, expect to find stalls serving Vietnamese, Thai and Japanese treats, as well as Hubei dishes, Guangxi noodles and burgers – not to mention pizzas from Le Fromager de Pekin and a new bar from the team behind Janes and Hooch called Canvas. Stay tuned for more news from Yu over the coming days.
White truffles and red wine at Rosewood Beijing
Just in case you don't spend your time jetting from one luxury hotel to another you may have missed that Rosewood Beijing has a sister property in Italy, and it's a 900-year-old castle with its own vineyard. Castiglion del Bosco is a down right showstopper so check that out pronto tonto.
Basically, this affects you because the chef of said idyllic castle is in town this week and he's brought a metric f**k-tonne of white truffles (at the height of season) and cases of their vineyard's award-winning wines. Chef
Enrico Figliuolo will be preparing signature dishes from the
castiglion featuring the superlative 'shrooms for one week only, so jump on it. Check out the
event details for more.
Mao Mao Chong opens Guanghua Lu location
Hutong cocktail bar and pizzeria Mao Mao Chong has opened a second location in the CBD.
Yup, one of Beijing's most beloved hutong bars has opened a bar in Guanghualu Soho for the after-work brigade. Expect the same inventive cocktails with a Beijing twist, as well as additional food offerings and fewer malingering hipsters.
The new space is much larger than the hutong original, and the decor follows the dark, speakeasy-style trend that we're not sick of at all. Venue details here.

Yotsuba to open casual Japanese concept in Jianguomen
The team at Yotsuba, Time Out favourite for old-school, high-end sushi recently let slip they will be opening a 'dressed down' version of their Beijing Japanese fine dining concept – we hear it's called Man Yo and that we can expect it to open in the next few weeks.
For those out of the loop, Yotsuba is a purist's paradise – no crunchy-fried-sweet-spicy-tuna-explosion rolls here folks, only top quality fish, an unyielding commitment to tradition and a dining experience we have long been accustomed to coughing up major dough to enjoy. Man Yo is aimed at that sweet spot between price and quality we in the biz like to call 'value' – ever heard of it? Keep an eye out for more.
Hatchery to launch Aussie café-themed weekend brunch
Fresh off its Dongsijiutiao relaunch, culinary incubator Hatchery is gearing up for an all-new weekend brunch menu loosely based on an Australian neighbourhood café. We were informed by the relevant experts that such a place is all about comfort, flavour and value with a local vibe.
Expect heaps of Hollandaise and eggs galore plus a revamped line-up of Hatchery's ever-popular bowls, with plenty of bubbly and fresh juices to boot. Keep an eye on the
venue page for more coming this weekend.

Beijing Guoan tried to sign Wayne Rooney
The capital's football team tried to buy English star Wayne Rooney this summer, it has been recently revealed.
Beijing Guoan's chairman Luo Ning said the Chinese Super League (CSL) team made an offer for Rooney, with wages speculated to be as high as 2.5 million RMB a week, back in the summer but the English striker rejected the proposal.
Rooney is no longer a first-team starter for Manchester United, and CSL teams have a habit of picking up European stars who are past their best, so it seems like a match made in heaven. The CSL finished last month, with Beijing finishing in fifth position.
