When the 'unsinkable ship' called the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and began its descent into the abyss, 1,517 men, women and children also went down with it. And it is their stories that Maury Yeston (music and lyrics) and Peter Stone (author of the book written for this play called the Titanic) zoom in on, with particular emphasis on how the vast vessel served as a microcosm of the different class systems and the individuals' hopes and dreams: from the magnified differences when they stepped onto the ship to their slow journey towards their common fate, regardless of their statutes in life. And it is our investment in these characters and their stories that perhaps make the ending even more devastating.
