When six-year-old emperor Puyi was abdicated in 1912, change was upon Beijing. Suddenly, the old patriarchal structures of society were no longer kept in place. Newspapers, cigarette packages and movies inspired a whole new idea of what it meant to be a woman. This new tour will take place in the old Beijing neighbourhood of Dashilar - a place traditionally deemed as the 'melting pot' of Beijing society with new modern storefronts, newspaper houses, brothels and movie theatres that became important vehicles of change.
