Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA)

The Important Thing is Not the Meat: Gu Dexin solo exhibition
Famed for utilising raw cuts of the red stuff, Gu came to prominence in the '80s but famously quit the scene in 2009. So don't miss the chance to see a selection of works usually spread among private collections. Until May 27.

Hanging Garden in Ink: Jennifer Wen Ma solo exhibition
The US-based artist has painted an island of live plants that is suspended from the ceiling. Expect the work to change over time, as the plants break free of their paint coating and grow into the light. Until May 27.

Curated by MadeIn Company: Standing on the Shoulders of Little Clowns
The latest, and possibly last, in the Curated By series, MadeIn (the artist known as Xu Zhen until 2009) has brought together the work of the art collective GUEST, which includes five of China’s most prominent emerging artists: Li Ming, Lin Ke, Lu Pingyuan, Xu Qu and Zhao Yao. Expect a range of media, including installation and performance art, following the themes of carnivals and the theatre. See review. Until May 27.

The Poverty Line
Joint exhibition of works by Stefen Chow and Lin Huiyin’s ongoing project, depicting life on the sharp end of being poor. Until May 31. 

Symphony of Time and Light: Hisaji Hara solo exhibition
Japanese artist Hisaji Hara provides a fresh perspective on re-examining historical masterpieces through alternative media. He uses the unique language of photography to capture the distinctive spirit found in Balthus’paintings, as well as to turn a critical eye on 20th century history. See feature. Until June 15.

Camden: Jean-Christian Boucart solo exhibition
