Here are some of Ren Hang's best and boldest recent photographs

In memory of Ren Hang, 30 March 1987–24 February 2017

@renhangrenhang
There are many things that could be said on the passing of Beijing artist Ren Hang, but none that seem adequate to capture either the depth and breadth of his aesthetic comprehension or our feeling on his tragic death.

Because of this, we're choosing not to write a obituary or focus on the circumstances, but to celebrate the passion he brought to Chinese photography with a selection of some of the most striking shots posted to his Instagram account, mostly over the last year.

Beautiful, provocative and stylised, Ren Hang's work ensures that his legacy will not be defined in terms of his passing but by his vision and talent. We present this microscopic selection of his photography on its own terms, so that both preexisting fans of this pioneering artist and those unfamiliar with his work can celebrate a life that saw Chinese image-making redefined.
