Since the Tiki Bungalow
opened in Spring 2015, it's transformed a little piece of Dongcheng into an unashamedly bonkers (and award-winning!)
island paradise with some of the most inspired cocktails in Beijing.
We love it to a degree that is perhaps a little concerning, especially when you consider that there's a definite risk to drinking at Tiki B: one of their disturbingly delicious cocktails gets you tipsy, two will get you drunk, three will get you to a level that involves running to the hutong toilets singing The Beach Boys at top volume, four will put you on the floor.
The original space, looking as much of a conduit to party times as it always does.
However, the only problem with Tiki (unless you hate Hawaiian shirts and fun, of course) has been its size – it's cozy, to say the least. Whereas this doesn't present a problem should you be on the sesh midweek, come Friday or Saturday night (when the bar is rammed tighter than a fat man's pair of Speedos) things can get a little, well, elbow-y.
Well, not any more, praise the Tiki gods! The good folks at the Bungalow have opened up a new expansion, taking over the former premises of an abandoned restaurant concept next door, and it's kitted out with all the kitschy enthusiasm and beachside ephemera that we've come to regard as the hallmarks of a fun hutong drinking spot.
It's called the Iguana Room (best. name. ever.) and aspiring lounge lizards should check out our exclusive pictures of the new space right here, right now.
It's spacious, it's neon and there's a p**sed-looking parrot holding court in the corner. What more could you want?
We're really digging the amount of table space they've managed to fit in, and the layout means that it should be a doddle to get to the bar. Plus, that hibiscus-print wallpaper and bamboo panelling is to die for.
We've never seen this cheerful libation before, but it looks like a delicious citrus number that'll also get you mortal. Get in our bellies, funky fruity cocktail.
And, of course, you can still indulge in the Painkilla – hooray! We're not sure when the Iguana Room is opening, but it should be throwing its doors wide around 28 February.
