There's a new ladies-only gym in Galaxy Soho

Boutique gym Ms Uptown specialises in yoga, dance and functional training

Aurelien Foucault
Boutique gym Ms Uptown opened its doors at the end of October with the sole aim of providing a comfortable and intimate arena for ladies to exercise and relax.

With only one studio and a small workout area – complete with two treadmills and free weights – the gym is certainly compact, but for good reason: ‘to help form a really small and close-knit community and give [people] the opportunity to connect,’ explains owner Judyanna Chen. And only a couple of weeks after opening, the sense of community is already growing strong.

Ms Uptown currently concentrates on group classes with three main focus areas – yoga, dance and functional training – all of which are tailored to womens' lifestyle. Chen notes that ‘[women] don’t usually want really big biceps, we want toned arms, toned legs,’ so the classes are mainly aimed at toning, strengthening and sculpting.
