Two London teams will meet at the Bird's Nest

Premier League football clubs Arsenal and Chelsea will play a pre-season friendly in Beijing this summer, it has been announced.

The two London sides will meet at the Bird's Nest stadium on Saturday July 22. Ticket details have not yet been released.

Both teams have visited China in the past: Chelsea came in 2008, while Arsenal took on Manchester City in a pre-season match at the Bird's Nest in 2012.

Pre-season friendlies are typically toothless affairs, as team managers are keen to avoid any injuries to their star players. Still, it will give Beijingers the chance to see two Premier League teams face off for the first time in a couple of years. Plus, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is a pretty competitive guy, so he won't want to lose even a friendly to their London rivals.

Last summer, the 'Manchester derby' between Manchester United and Manchester City was cancelled at the last minute due to an unplayable pitch caused by torrential rain. Here's hoping event organisers will take adequate precautions this time around.

The two sides faced each other in the Premier League last weekend, with Chelsea ending up 3-1 winners in a victory that further enhanced their title credentials. Indeed, unless there's a huge upset over the next few months we will likely see the English Premier League champions play this summer.
