The Screenplay as Literature (Saturday 25 February, 3.30pm)

Liu Cheng – professor, scriptwriter and author – asks panelists whether screenplays can be literature.
 
Chemistry in the Kitchen (Sat 25 February, 5pm)

Harold McGee, who wrote On Food and Cooking (‘One of the greatest cookery books ever written,’ according to gastro-whiz Heston Blumenthal) will explain how cooking and science have been interacting with one another for centuries.
 
 
(March 3, 11am) Biographer Anne Sebba reassesses the reputation of Wallis Simpson, the American divorcee who enchanted Britain’s King Edward VIII so much that he abdicated his throne for her in 1936.

The Great Financial Times Debate (March 3, 3.30pm)


If you only see one event, make it this rip-roaring annual debate. This year, journos, including chief US commentator for the FT, Edward Luce, will argue over whether China’s rise spells America’s decline.
 
Mohammed Hanif (March 3, 5pm)

The Pakistani writer and journalist delves into his latest tale of life in Karachi, Our Lady of Alice Bhatti. His debut, A Case of Exploding Mangoes, was shortlisted for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award.
