Having recently played a packed show in Hong Kong, The Wedding Present, the hugely influential British indie-rock band will perform in mainland China for the first time. Since 1986, band has had soaring success with a prolific output of hit singles in their heyday.
By 1992, the Leeds-based group has amassed a cult following so powerful that they have matched Elvis’s record of having 12 top 40 UK hits in under a year. Throughout the group's career, they have been led by frontman, vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band's remaining original member, of whom legendary BBC Radio 1 host John Peel once said ‘has written some of the best love songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Era’.
Known for an unrefined grungy, melancholic and jangly sound and Gedge’s gruff voice, The Wedding Present’s music has evolved from fast-paced indie-rock guitar pop fueled by a teenager’s frustration, to more varied forms that continue to speak to the heart of generations after 30 years.
Expect to hear tracks from some of their 18 UK Top 40 hit singles, as well as their latest work including their ninth studio album, Going, Going... in their upcoming Beijing show.
