Food Awards 2016: how it works

How we're picking Beijing's best restaurants in 2016

What makes our awards different?

As the city's only expert-led, anonymously conducted awards, determining the winners of the Time Out Food Awards is possibly biggest task of the year for our editorial team. We gathered consulted over 40 food and drink experts, from both in and out of house but all based in Beijing, to nominate restaurants for the shortlist. What follows is a rigorous, months-long process of anonymous restaurant visits. Specialised by areas of expertise, we visit nominated restaurants, evaluating a long list of detailed metrics. Venues are judged by category-specific scorecards with weighted criteria including food, service, ambiance and value. To be in the chance for winning, restaurants need to have opened by Dec 31, 2015. The final results reflect unadulterated, independent picks of Beijing's best restaurants.
