Traditionally, Wuhao Curated Shop changes its space and products each season to correspond with the relevant Chinese elements of fire, water, earth, metal and wood. But now its creators are developing the concept by including all five elements in the same space at the same time. This new incarnation, which still features furniture, jewellery, ceramics, fashion and lighting, pares down what has come before while paving the way for something new.
The central element for winter is water, which has a transformative power and has been subtly woven into all the exhibits – including a mirror installation in the north pavilion that creates a water effect, enabling a new perspective upon which sits the ‘loop’ chair by Taiwanese designer Pili Wu. Other highlights include new brand MPMP by local designers Aurélien Lecour and Katrin Reinfurt, a fashion line inspired by scientific and philosophical research (250-5,000RMB), the first collection of Chinese slippers by Charles Philip Shanghai (900RMB) and cuff links by Samuel Gassman (900-1,200RMB).
While May’s spring exhibit is still in the planning stages, quirky Thai eyewear brand Moo, which uses vintage frames reworked with fine porcelain, will definitely be featured, while Wuhao also promises a range of stationery and other products during 2012.
