The CCTV Headquarters – Beijing’s infamous ‘Big Pants building’ – has stolen the limelight for long enough. Head over to Haidian and check out its often-overlooked sister building, the CCTV Tower.
Shoot 238 metres up into the sky and exit the lift to find the 360-degree viewing platform – and be greeted by gusts of wind and a sprawling city landscape. Beijing’s more notorious landmarks are visible, but are mostly outplayed by the majestic mountain ranges that surround the city.
If you’re feeling flush, head down a few floors to the Skyview Revolving Restaurant – the highest restaurant in Beijing – although, frankly, you’d haveto be high to pay the extortionate prices (dinner buffet 298RMB) charged for mediocre food. Still, from this height, and with the panoramic view, your eyes will have plenty to feast on, whether you go first thing in the morning or later on at night.
