Located on the same road as SALT, Frank’s Place and the Rosedale Hotel, Park Side Bar and Grill has a wonderful terrace with comfy sofas and tables situated under the dappled light from the surrounding trees.
Inside, it is reminiscent of an upscale American sports bar with hardwood surfaces, four large flatscreen TV sets plus high chairs and tables. The unisex toilets designate the men’s room as ‘12 inches’ and the ladies’ room as ‘34D’ – sadly, this made Time Out’s male reviewer confront the fact that he’s much closer to having 34Ds than he is to packing 12 inches. Self-esteem issues aside, however, it’s something of a gimmick.
The prices are mid-level, but cheap for the Lido area, with draught Carlsberg (30RMB; 20RMB during happy hour), glasses of house wine (38RMB) and cocktails (48RMB) all affordable.
The food selection consists of well-prepared pub fare with plenty of options from the grill, the most mouthwatering of which is the 350g prime rib for 220RMB. Meanwhile, the steak (78RMB) was delicious, though slightly chewy, while the Florida BLT (48RMB) came with added avocado and is comfortably one of Beijing’s best bar snacks. Ross Goulding
