Sanlitun Houjie
Located off the strip formerly known as Sanlitun Bar Street (Dirty Bar Street, at its worst), this sun-drenched café is by no means vegetarian, but its tabbouleh (46RMB), fattoush (46RMB) and choice of no less than seven different types of hummus (40-60RMB) have gained it a devoted following of carnivores and non-carnivores alike.

Biteapitta's falafel in particular, with its crisp, golden shells and fragrant, tender interiors, are the stuff that could inspire a Scheherazade-length ode or, in our case, the bold declaration that they're some of the best in Beijing – hands down. Get them in a warm pita pocket with hummus for a step-up from your everyday sarnie.
