A reputable hotel close to the Airport Expressway and adjacent to the Lufthansa department store, the Kempinski struggles to compete with other international brands in Beijing like the Peninsula or Shangri-La. Aside from the funky Chinese-style black wardrobes, rooms are fairly forgettable but the hotel, as a whole, has a cosy, warm and relaxed vibe. The Kempinski is popular with European travellers thanks to its good German restaurant (Paulaner Brauhaus) and a quality Italian (La Gondola). The Kempi Deli is also a lifesaver if you prefer a pain au chocolat to traditional Chinese congee for breakfast in the morning.
