Amidst a raft of duck restaurants, Siji Minfu strikes a balance between traditional techniques and mass appeal. This place is packed most nights, so be sure to book a table in advance.

It’s worth it, though, as Siji Minfu maintains a commendable level of quality while keeping the price low – a full duck is only 178RMB. The duck is served in the time-tested Beijing manner, sliced tableside by an expert carver. A generous amount of glossy, crispy skin is carefully shaved off, with a side of white sugar for dipping. The duck is delicately moist and well sized, so even after the pancakes are gone, there’s plenty of leftover to gnaw on (we won’t judge). To finish, a bowl of rich, milky-white duck soup is made from the carcass.

The menu’s local specialities further set up the franchise as an enviable culinary spot, well worth a visit for adventurous foodies looking for a taste of genuine local cuisine.
