Tucked inside of ceramics store Phoenix Design, Tang’ Roulou (those sugar-coated hawthorns we love) has the best threads your renminbi can buy.

It started when French owner Amélie Peraud combined her occidental taste with the clothes she was designing for her pregnant friends back home that later became the brainchild of her and Pierre-Yves Babin.Peraud and Babin create an aesthetic that gracefully blends Chinese and Western elements of style.

We love the pink ruffl edshorts in bunny rabbit print (160RMB), the blanket that resembles the doors of the Forbidden City complete with embroidered knobs (620RMB) and the snuggly sleeping bags (320RMB).

There are also carry-alls (450RMB) and satchels (280RMB) that sensibly come with numerous pockets, and a wide selection of bibs to protect your new purchases.

Tang' Roulou is also collaborating with Femmes du Ningxia (who utilise the embroidery skills of Ningxia women) to create their ‘Nuli Xuexi’ range of books (180RMB) and pencil cases (220RMB) – the perfect bribe to lure your kids back to school after the summer holidays. Alice McInerney
