JL, by two Shanghai girls, is a relaxed, chic and very affordable label that focuses on cotton and linen neutral fabrics in both menswear and womenswear. Look to the sculpted shift dresses (320RMB) and slouchy crop tops (208RMB), and, for the boys, be sure to check out the T-shirts with bold prints of dragonflies and praying mantises (168RMB).
Also worth checking out is Fujian designer Ye Qian’s label – think versatile, multifunctional dresses Sankuanz, a brand based in Xiamen. Definitely one to watch is Wong Yenn. His romantic menswear is so hot it’s still without a price tag.
New accessories are also on hand, including Ipa-Nima’s quirky clutches (800RMB) and bejewelled keyrings (400RMB). Zhao Yi, an instructor at the Beijing Fashion Institute, is happy to display her own bold pieces alongside work from her top-of-the-class students (150-700RMB).
Also worth investing in is former ballet dancer Wang Lei’s crystal jewellery, including bracelets (230RMB) and necklaces (800RMB). Alice McInerney
