Zhihua Temple

5 Lumicang Hutong
The gorgeous Zhihua Temple – formerly the home of a powerful eunuch – is worth visiting for its lovely architecture and Buddhist decorations alone. But as far as we’re concerned, the real appeal is in the regular performances by its monks, who play Ming-Dynasty Buddhist compositions on various traditional instruments. Performances are free with entry, which is 20RMB. A permanent exhibition, with excellent English translations and photographs, gives a detailed history of the temple.
